Vintage + Editorial: A Moody Bar Engagement Session in Scranton

Marykate & Adam’s engagement session took place on a January afternoon inside one of Scranton’s coziest little spots — Jack’s Draft House. This cozy Scranton bar gave us the perfect moody backdrop.

Instead of an outdoor session, we went for something more editorial and flash-heavy. We leaned into that vintage, old money aesthetic with bold lighting, classic drinks, and barstools as backdrops. The flash added just the right amount drama, and the whole space, with its dark wood, striped wallpaper, and old-school charm, photographed beautifully.

Marykate showed up in a cream, knit dress and a faux fur coat that tied the whole look together perfectly. She and Adam ordered an espresso martini and a dirty martini and settled into their seats. It felt more like an evening out than a photoshoot — which is exactly what I love about bar sessions like this.

We stepped outside for a few minutes to grab some quick portraits with that winter light and leftover snow, then headed back in for more cozy, low-lit shots. The whole session had this film-like quality that I can’t get enough of.

If you’re planning your engagement session and want something a little less traditional — bars like Jack’s can make the perfect setting. Whether it’s a place that holds meaning or just a spot that matches your style, there’s something really special about keeping things intimate, intentional, and fun.
